DUDLEY (head coach)
Rachel Smith Played school ball from 5th – 12th grade (8 years) and played club ball with the Acers for 5 years. Rachel is a Defensive Specialist by trade and was a three sport athlete in high school (volleyball, wrestling and track). Rachel has been assistant coaching with the 15s and 17s teams for the past 2 years, and co-coaching the 5th and 6th grade program for 3 years. She is Impact Certified. Here is what Rachel has to say. “I love volleyball because it’s a team sport and I like that fact that you have to be good at multiple components of the game. One of my unique volleyball experiences was that I got to play with my sister for most of my volleyball career and we have always played side by side and helped each other in the game. I look forward to this season with all of you!”
ASHLEY DAVIS (head coach)Years Coaching: 6 years 3 years with AVC (2008-present) 3 years with Appleton Excel (2004-2007) Years Playing: 14 years High School: Columbus East HS 1999-2003 (Columbus, IN) Clubs: Columbus East VBC 1999, Circle City VBC 2000-2003 (Indianapolis, IN) College: Lawrence University 2003-2007 (Appleton, WI) One of my favorite volleyball memories was having the opportunity to play in a National VB Qualifier in Baltimore, MD in 2003. It was a great chance to play against top competition from around the country and I got the opportunity to explore a city I’d never been to before. I started playing volleyball when I was 12 years old and had great coaches along the way. If it wasn’t for those individuals, I would not have achieved what I have in this sport. I enjoy coaching because I want to pass on what I’ve learned from those coaches to help younger volleyball players achieve their goals both on and off the court. KARYN JORDAHL-BURCUM (head coach) Years Coaching: 4 years with AVC, 3 years as JV coach at Oregon High School, Previously in college I volunteered with Edgewood’s elementary volleyball team Years Playing: 8 years (high school and 4 years at Edgewood College) For my last 3 years at Edgewood, I had the great opportunity to be a captain of our team. I also was a representative for our volleyball team in the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Edgewood College and become president for our conference (Northern Athletic Conference) SAAC. During my senior year, the NCAA featured their athletes who were also artists. I was 1 of 12 chosen throughout the NCAA to have my photography in the NCAA magazine and also on display at the NCAA Convention. I coach volleyball because I love the sport - it is a part of my life. It’s a tremendous gift to be given by helping kids learn the game of volleyball and take away more than just volleyball skills, but life skills as well. Volleyball is such a great team sport that teaches kids they need to work hard, cooperate with others, have good attitudes, earn respect, and have responsibility for their actions in order to be successful. As a coach, it’s great seeing the girls want to learn, but even better when they have that ‘Aha moment’ and actually understand the answer to their problem/question after listening to what you’ve been teaching them. I have taken away so many great memories from my years of playing volleyball in college and high school, that I couldn’t see myself not continuing to be involved in the sport. The transition from being the player to the coach has been a great experience. I continue to learn from my teams and am reminded why I enjoy the game so much by seeing our team’s dedication and hard work. Carol Smith Played womens and co-ed for 25 years. Was a gymnast and softball player in my previous life. I’ve been coaching volleyball for 10 years, all the way from 5th graders in the MAISL league to 16s at the club level and everything in between. I manage to learn something new every year that I coach and strive to be the best coach for the team I am currently coaching. Skills are of course a huge part as well as smart game play. I also believe in teaching and modeling being a good team mate, good sportsmanship, a good work ethic, integrity and most importantly – never stop being a student of the game. Each player will be a better, smarter player than when they started the season. Impact Certified. Michael Smith Player for 25 years, mens and co-ed. Michael has been coaching volleyball for 9 years, 12s, 13s 14s 15s. Michael likes to focus on good core skills and working together as a team. As a 6th grade teacher, he enjoys the middle school players and is a good fit for them. Michael is Impact Certified. Sharyn Jordahl Years Coaching: 3 years with Acers Volleyball Club, 1 year with tiny tots through Performance Volleyball Institute/MSRV, Impact certified. Years playing: 9 years - Grade school and Clubs - 4 years at Portage High School - 1 year at Ripon College (2007) - 1 year at Madison College (2009) - sand volleyball leagues Will be graduating Madison College for the Dental Hygiene program in 2014. Currently has an Associates in Marketing. Enjoys taken Hunt/Jump riding lessons, and riding her horse, Eli. "One of my most favorite volleyball experience would have been going to the N4C National Championship in Rochester, Minnesota while attending Madison College. It can be hard to make a group of girls bond together who only have a year or two to play together, compared to girls that play with each other for four years in college. We blended so well together and grew so close that it made taking 2nd at Nationals possible. This had been the first time in MATC/Madison College history the volleyball team made it to Nationals and it was a great experience to be a part of." |
